History
Cainta is one of the older settlements in the Rizal area, with a recorded history reaching back to the Spanish colonial period.
Spanish accounts place the founding of Cainta in the sixteenth century, when the settlement came under colonial administration. The town later figured in the British occupation of Manila in the 1760s, and Indian sepoys who arrived with the British forces are traditionally counted among the ancestors of some Cainta families.
